Start by collecting all your ingredients. It’s always easier to have everything at arm's reach before you get started. Measure out your hot sauce, honey, garlic powder, and any optional spices you plan to use.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the unsalted butter. Stir occasionally until it melts completely. Keep an eye on it to prevent any burning. We want smooth melted butter, not browned.
Once the butter has melted, it’s time to add the hot sauce. Pour in your chosen hot sauce slowly and stir as you do. The mixture should start coming together and form a beautiful, vibrant orange color.
Now add the garlic powder, and if you opted for them, the honey, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Stir well until all the ingredients are fully combined. This sauce should smell amazing!
Here’s where the magic happens. Take a small taste of your sauce. Does it have enough heat? Too much? Is it sweet enough for your liking? Adjust the honey or add more hot sauce until it’s perfect for your palette.
Once you’re happy with the flavor, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool. Once cooled, transfer your homemade buffalo sauce into a jar or airtight container. It’s ready to be used!
